Speak, magic apples

Adapted from The Big Magic by Brendan Murray

Bobo, the gullible hero of the play, learns that a great evil is coming. Frightened, he cuts down the trees in his garden to build a fence to protect himself. The arrival of a stranger (he is a refugee) further isolates Bobo and “as if by magic” the great evil comes. The world stops turning.

With the help of the moon, Bobo sets out to discover the “Big Magic” that will make the world turn again. He climbs the dark mountain, descends into the silent sea and flies across the impenetrable sky to finally understand that the “Big Magic” was to share an apple with the hungry stranger who had arrived in his garden.

This work is a fairy tale that, through humor and play, highlights the concepts of trust and solidarity as key factors in resisting the conservatism created by fear of an ever-changing world.

The play “Speak, magic apples” premiered in 2014 at the “Fournos” Theater and continues its tour in schools and theaters in Athens and the surrounding region.
